The Western Meadowlark by Pamela Martinez

I teach violin, voice, songwriting, and music theory to beginner and intermediate students of any age. My teaching has a strong focus on mentorship, keeping in mind the student's musical taste and goals. I have a Bachelors degree in Music Education from Berklee College of Music in Boston, and I have experience leading/teaching orchestras, string quartets, choirs, and rock bands. My work experience has given me a unique combination of skills that blend my ability to create, educate and organize.

My most recent teaching experience includes group vocal and piano classes as an after school artist in resident at public schools as well as different arts organizations across New York City. Additionally, I have been a private music teacher and a workshop leader around the country for beginner and intermediate musicians for violin, voice, piano, songwriting, and ensemble leading including music in pop styles.

My teaching style is very student focused. I adjust my lessons in order to engage students in areas where I detect the most interest and energy. I love to be part of the discovery and translation of what music can convey to an open mind. We are all attempting to express and interpret; I think the most important part of working with those new to music is to teach them fundamental music concepts while creating an environment of joy. Music is amazing, and I'd love to pass it on.

Currently, I live in Brooklyn and lead a band called Teletextile.  Baltimore City Paper described us this way, "Teletextile, a perfectly lovely chamber-bliss band from New York, soundtracks your finer daydreams."
