John Beaty
Saxophonist John Beaty was born in Beaumont, Texas. John attended the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy and upon graduating high school in 2001, moved to New York City. There he received his bachelor's degree from the New School University for Jazz and Contemporary Studies and a Master's degree from New York University. Shortly thereafter, at the age of 23, John began teaching music at New York University. John has also dedicated his talents to teaching impoverished kids, K to 8th grade through the nonprofit organization ETM in the Bronx and Harlem.
Since his arrival in New York, John has emerged as one of the most sought after musicians in the city, playing at clubs such as Birdland, Blue Note, Smalls, Jazz Standard, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, Smoke, and the Iridium. John has shared the stage with many great musicians, including Dafnis Prieto, Joe Lovano, Richard Bona, Kenny Werner, John Scofield, Reggie Workman, Jean-Michel Pilc, Ari Hoenig, Jimmy Heath, Jason Lindner, Lenny Pickett, Junior Mance, Gil Goldstein, the MK Groove Orchestra and in 2003 were featured at Carnegie Hall with Slide Hampton. John has also recorded with world famous music producer Teo Macero, soloing alongside Dave Liebmann and Lee Konitz.
He has toured extensively, playing and recording in France with Jean-Michel Pilc and most recently John was featured with Andy Milne's group "Dapp Theory," touring the US and Canada in March and April of 2008 and Fall 08. Other tours have taken the John to Japan three times as a leader. All during this time John was assisting conducter and arranger Robert Sadin by helping arrange, orchestrate, and check scores for artists such as Kathleen Battle, Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra, Sue Mingus, and Young Ok Shin's major label debut Cinematique. Most recently, John and his twin brother Joe, released their first CD; "Beaty Brothers Band" in September of 2008 featuring Yayoi Ikawa on Piano, Jim Robertson on bass, and the great Ari Hoenig on drums.
