Frank LoCrasto
Pianist, composer, arranger, and educator Frank LoCrasto attended high school at Dallas’ Arts Magnet, receiving several awards from the acclaimed jazz magazine Downbeat and the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE). He received the Clifford Brown/Stan Getz Award and is a Presidential Scholar in the Arts—an honor awarded to only 20 artists across the nation each year. Due to these successes, Frank received a full scholarship from The New School University, where he earned a B.A. in performance from the jazz program.
Frank has established himself quickly as an important voice in the international jazz scene. He has appeared onstage with Pat Martino, Joe Lovano, Eric Alexander, Gregory Tardy, Avishai Cohen, George Garzone, John Ellis, Mark Turner, Chris Cheek, Jonathan Kriesberg, Nicholas Payton, among many others. He regularly tours the U.S., Europe, and Asia with artists such as Wallace Roney, Jeremy Pelt, and Greg Osby.
The music Frank writes and performs is simple and humble, influenced by jazz artists such as Bill Evans and Paul Bley, with the sensitivity of Keith Jarrett. “I draw a lot of inspiration from rock and pop music,” says LoCrasto. “I love Lennon and McCartney and their work with George Martin. Radiohead is a big influence too. Lately, my biggest influences have been Jon Brion and Michael Andrews. Their music is so creative and simple. That’s something I try to achieve in my writing, but with a blend of improvisation.” Frank’s debut record, “When You’re There,” is available worldwide on the MAXJAZZ record label.
Frank’s easy-going manner allows him to work equally well with beginners of all ages and highly advanced students. His versatility shines not only from his mastery of acoustic piano, but with his deep interest in vintage keyboards and effects. Simply put, Frank is a perfect match for any student looking to develop a deep understanding of music.
