Aaron Shragge
Aaron Shragge has a BFA from the Jazz and Contemporary Music Program at New School University. He has studied with Laurie Frink and Kenny Werner, and has performed throughout the New York area and taught private trumpet lessons for the last 4 years. In studying with Laurie Frink, Aaron has begun to deeply absorb and apply the famous brass embouchure strengthening system of Carmine Caruso. The method is suitable for all levels of students and has a unique ability to quickly build strength, flexibility and tone for any trumpet player.
Kenny Werner's book Effortless Mastery has changed the lives of musicians all over the world. In studying with Kenny Werner, Aaron has been fortunate to apply this teaching to many aspects of his music including improvisation and rhythmic concepts. Effortless Mastery gives one the ability to understand the subtlety of the learning process and zero in on the mental blocks that keep us from moving forward. From his continued study of the Caruso Method and Effortless Mastery, Aaron has been able to offer his students a clear and effective way at reaching their individual goals.
Aaron also studies eastern music traditions. He plays the shakuhachi (Japanese) bamboo flute, and has been studying North Indian vocals for five years. He studies Shakuhachi Grand Master Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin and North Indian vocals with Michael Harrison. Aaron has also had the great honour of studying with Japanese Shakuhachi Master Yoshio Kurahashi and Indian Vocal Guru Mashkoor Ali Khan. He has studied music in both Japan and India. This gives his students a unique opportunity to understand their musical practice in a more global cultural context.
